2007 International CES -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its BCM3560 digital TV system-on-a-chip (SoC) has been selected by Westinghouse Digital for their 32- inch and 27-inch liquid crystal display high definition televisions (LCD HDTVs). Developed as a highly integrated HDTV solution with superior video quality and performance, the Broadcom(R) BCM3560 digital TV SoC provides a significantly lower bill of material (BOM) cost that appeals to most HDTV manufacturers. One example is Westinghouse Digital which has leveraged these capabilities to deliver a new generation of LCD HDTVs with advanced video quality and a lower BOM cost to customers.

"The HDTV set market grew from 20 million units in 2005 to 40 million units in 2006," said Michelle Abraham, Principal Analyst at In-Stat. "The HDTV market is poised to surge over the next couple years and products that offer higher performance, at consumer price points, will insure market success."

The BCM3560 is a highly integrated SoC television solution that enables manufacturers to develop complete lines of affordable TVs in support of analog, high definition, standard definition, and digital cable television programming that features superior video, audio and graphics quality. The level of integration and advanced performance achieved with the BCM3560 is enabling manufacturers to cost-effectively transition product lines to affordable high-quality analog/digital televisions in a variety of size and display options.

"Once we incorporated the BCM3560 SoC, we experienced significant enhancements in the video quality of our 32-inch and 27-inch HDTV displays," said, Darwin Chang, Chief Technical Officer of Westinghouse Digital. "We selected the BCM3560 based on advanced video performance and lower overall system cost, and believe by working with Broadcom, we can take advantage of other technical expertise in wired and wireless connectivity as we look for ways to differentiate our television product lines."

Westinghouse Digital has incorporated the BCM3560 into the new 27" and the 32" LCD HDTVs. The new units offer sleek designs and feature-rich options and are designed to be the centerpiece of a home entertainment system. Home theater aficionados, gamers and sports buffs alike will revel in the TVs' 720p/1080i resolution, fast 8-millisecond response time, and abundance of connection options including one HDMI and one DVI, component, composite, S- video, one VGA, RF tuner, one SPDIF and stereo out..

"Westinghouse Digital's new LCD HDTVs are a testimonial to the advanced video capabilities that the BCM3560 provides to TV manufacturers," said Stuart Thomson, Director of Marketing for Broadcom's Digital TV line of business. "By implementing the BCM3560 SoC, Westinghouse Digital is able to offer consumers an incredible entertainment experience on an affordable, large- screen HDTV display, which was typically unheard of a year ago."
