The Administrative Staff of Universal Coin & Bullion learned what it is like to be Blue Santa's Elf, as they helped collect toys and other goodies for Beaumont's Blue Santa. Each year, since the early 1990's, Blue Santa has provided real Christmas joy to many Beaumont children who otherwise would have a bleak holiday. The Beaumont Police Department has established a direct line to Blue Santa and is directly responsible for providing him with the annual naughty and nice list of children. This year about 66 kids appeared on Blue Santa's Nice List. Once he received the list of names, Blue Santa got the community to help with the gifts. Universal Coin & Bullion was one of the companies that volunteered to assist Blue Santa.

Jamie Talbert, a local rising Country and Western singer lent his talents to the project. Talbert performed at the Texas Star Bar on Crockett Street and donated the proceeds to help buy toys for the selected children. Between Talbert, the employees of Universal Coin & Bullion, their friends and family, a large truck of toys was given to Blue Santa to help with the children's wish lists.

Carlton Manzer, an officer with the Beaumont Police force, stated that his department also helps Blue Santa deliver the toys. Both Uniformed and non-uniformed personnel accompany Blue Santa to the homes of the children on the Nice List. With all those hundreds of wrapped presents, it is best to insure that no grinch has a chance to interfere in their delivery. Occasionally, Blue Santa gets to have a portrait taken with one of the Children receiving the gifts and that makes his long trek from the North Pole so satisfying.

Some wondered why Blue Santa did not use his sleigh to deliver gifts to the Beaumont children, and we were told it probably has something to do with its estimated speed of a thousand miles a second which is slightly above the Beaumont Speed limits.

The Blue Santa Operation provides toys, games, and electronic gifts to special kids 1 to 16 years old. The success of Beaumont's Blue Santa Program depends on the many contributions from the local businesses like Universal Coin & Bullion, civic organizations, countless Beaumont residents and of course the Beaumont Police Department.
