Children's Media Expert to Report on Research for Fred Rogers Center

Internationally-recognized children's media expert, Dr. Ellen A. Wartella, Senior Fellow of the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College, will report on her recent research regarding how media can be used to further young children's healthy development at 4:30 p.m. Monday, December 4 at the Duquesne Club, 325 Sixth Ave., Pittsburgh.

Dr. Wartella's extensive research has studied such questions as the effects of early use of baby videos on children's development, the reality of interactive television for children, and the childhood obesity crisis and what food marketers, television and cable networks are doing to combat the problem.

She was a co-principal investigator on the National TV Violence Study and is currently co-principal investigator of the Children's Digital Media Center project funded by the National Science Foundation. She is co-editor of the new book, Children and Television: 50 Years of Research. She has served on the Board of Trustees of the Sesame Workshop, and she currently serves on the National Educational Advisory Board of the Children's Advertising Review Unit of the Better Business Bureaus and the National Academy of Sciences Board on Children, Youth, and Families.
