EAST HARTFORD, Conn., June 17, 2011 -- Pratt & Whitney Power Systems is supplying the temporary power generation company, APR Energy (APR) with mobile power generation equipment that will be used to alleviate electric power shortfalls in Japan resulting from the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyo-Oki Earthquake and associated tsunami that recently devastated the country. Pratt & Whitney Power Systems is delivering three FT8® MOBILEPAC® gas turbines, as well as two half SWIFTPAC® gas power plants to APR, to be used in the company's expanding fleet of mobile power generation equipment. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.

APR Energy was recently awarded a contract to supply the Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. (TEPCO) with a 203MW temporary power solution that will utilize these gas powered generators alongside other power generation equipment. The initial five units will be mobilized to Japan by APR with installation and commissioning support provided by Pratt & Whitney Power Systems at the two project sites located on the eastern shore of the country.

"Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, together with APR Energy, are committed to providing a quick and reliable energy solution to Japan," said Peter Christman, president, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems. "Power disruptions continue to affect the day-to-day lives of the people, and this capability will help restore their electricity needs as fast as possible."

The two facilities located in Yokosuka and Hitachinaka will operate during peak periods to ensure a reliable and safe supply of electricity to the citizens of Japan, as well as to industrial customers. Power derived from the MOBILEPAC- and SWIFTPAC-based plants will be delivered to TEPCO's regional power grid.

Each FT8 MOBILEPAC provides a self-contained gas turbine-powered electric generator, capable of delivering up to 25 MW of moveable power. Individual MOBILEPACs are designed with the capability to be on the grid, site ready, and operational in under 24 hours, making them especially useful in emergency situations.

The MOBILEPAC gas turbine package design includes two trailers – the first contains the FT8 gas turbine and electric generator, and the second contains the switchgear and overall control system to operate the unit. The two half SWIFTPAC units will contain a gas generator and turbine, as well as an integrated control system and switch gear.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries.

APR Energy specializes in the sale of reliable and efficient electricity through the rapid deployment of Customized Turnkey Power Solutions globally.
