AAA: October Gas Prices Remain Unseasonably High |

Gas prices in Illinois and northern Indiana remain high for mid-October when prices normally drop due to decreased demand. AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased $.02 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.92 per gallon for the month of October, which is $.41 higher per gallon than last year.
In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.85, which is down 7 cents from September 2010 and up $.38 from October 2009. "While gas prices have dropped slightly from September's highs due to the pipeline leak, oil prices are up about 5 percent from September, which is causing retail gas prices to remain high," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.06, which is down $.06 from last month and $.42 higher than last year's price-per-gallon. In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.94 per gallon, which is a 7-cent decrease from September and up 40 cents from last year. In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.92 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower compared to last month and $.39 higher than October 2009's price. In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.88 per gallon, which is 9 cents lower than last month and up by $.37 compared to this time last year. In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.91 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month's average and $.38 higher than October 2009's price. In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.93 per gallon, which is 7 cents lower compared to last month and $.40 higher compared to last year. In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.87 per gallon, an increase of 6 cents from September and an increase of $.42 from last year. In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.84 per gallon, which is 3 cents lower than last month and $.43 higher than last year. In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.88 per gallon, which is up $.03 compared to last month and up $.47 from October 2009. In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.89 per gallon, which is 3 cents higher than last month and $.45 higher than last year. In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.90 per gallon, a decrease of 2 cents from September and an increase of $.42 from October 2009. In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.85 per gallon, which is an increase of 6 cents from last month and $.37 higher than October 2009's price. In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.86 per gallon, a 7-cent decrease from September's average and a $.37 increase from a year ago. In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.84 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower than last month and $.38 higher than last year. In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.85 per gallon, which is 1 cent higher compared to last month and $.38 higher compared to last year.
