National Dialogue and Revival for Social Justice Conference is Coming to Detroit |

The National Action Network (NAN) in conjunction with Fellowship Chapel, the Detroit Branch NAACP and Fannie Lou Hamer will host The National Dialogue and Revival for Social Justice. The Conference will be held November 2-3, 2006 at Fellowship Chapel located at 7707 W. Outer Drive in Detroit. The two-day event will feature national and local renowned speakers and panelists such as: Rev. Charles Adams, Ph.D., pastor, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church; Dick Gregory, civil rights activist and comedian and Rev. Al Sharpton, president, National Action Network. The conference will also broadcast live during Inside Detroit and Sharp Talk on WCHB 1200 AM.
"The current social, economic and political climate dictate that the time is now for this dialogue," says Rev. Wendell Anthony. "The Black Church has always led the way in the dialogue for social change in this country and we want to make sure that the conversations continue." According to Rev. Sharpton, "The times make it necessary and the issues make it imperative that the Black Church speaks to social justice." A detailed conference schedule is attached. Wendell Anthony Today we are here to announce the upcoming National Dialogue and Revival for Social Justice to be hosted by Fellowship Chapel Thursday and Friday, here in the City of Detroit. This is a National Dialogue and movement among African American churches to re-emphasize the significant fight for social justice and self-determination rooted in the historic mission of the church. All people are invited to attend this two-day dialogue and symposium. The partners for this historic event are the National Action Network, Detroit NAACP, Radio One and of course Fellowship Chapel United Church of Christ. The purpose of this Dialogue is to help arm the church with the tools needed to continue the fight for racial justice, elimination of poverty, an end to injustice and to raise the level of healthcare priorities in our community. Further it is to combat the continuous emphasis on prosperity and money as the key to salvation as opposed to the good news of empowering our people and addressing the life quality issues for the neglected and the rejected. We are pleased to announce both national and local speakers and panelists for this Dialogue. Speakers including the Rev. Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network and former presidential candidate, comedian and social activist Dick Gregory, and Rev. Dr. Freddie Haynes III, pastor of the Friendship West Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas will all be coming to the City of Detroit for this community-wide event. It is our intention to send out a clarion call for action to help in the fight for social justice, to engage churches to join in the fight to defeat Proposal 2 and further to engage in the mission for AIDS prevention in the African American community. We are pleased that Radio One will be broadcasting both days here at Fellowship Chapel. We plan to have religious and social justice leaders from across the country calling into this National Dialogue as participants as well as to engage churches nation-wide for this historic mission.
