Radyne Corporation (Nasdaq: RADN) announced today that its TM-20 Troposcatter modem was employed successfully to establish an industry-first 20 Mbps Ku band Troposcatter, or "over-the-horizon" communications link.

Ku Band operation enables troposcatter communications to be achieved using a single antenna in contrast to legacy large dual antenna systems. Ku band operation also enables the development of mobile combined troposcatter/satellite/line-of-site communication systems. In contrast, current field-deployable satellite/troposcatter systems require up to six transport vehicles while the system demonstrated is entirely contained on one vehicle.

The new troposcatter system will be featured at the upcoming US Military's Product Improvement Working Group and Conference in Perry, Georgia, June 21 - 23, and the CommunicAsia Satellite Conference in Singapore on June 20 - 23.

"We are delighted to obtain the superior results in actual field testing of the TM-20," said Bob Fitting, Radyne's CEO. "These field tests confirm that the Radyne tropo technology provides the best performance of any system in the world today."

"Customers who have expressed interest in this innovative new product include branches of the US Military, friendly Middle Eastern nations, and commercial customers seeking disaster recovery and offshore oil applications," continued Fitting.

The TM-20 represents the first significant advance in over-the-horizon technology in almost three decades. The use of modern signal processing techniques and a patented channel-directed-equalizer provides for link performance and configuration flexibility previously unheard of in Troposcatter systems. The TM-20's compact and power conserving design is ideal for mobile and flyaway installations.

The successful demonstration was conducted in conjunction with Radyne troposcatter partners, Raytheon and General Dynamics. Additional information regarding this achievement is available from Raytheon in a separate press release dated today.
