The following is an official statement of Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President:

It is outrageous and unacceptable that Comair plans to unilaterally cut wages and change work rules for its 970 flight attendants based on some artificial deadline, and it will not be tolerated.

The Teamster flight attendants' basic, fair message throughout negotiations with Comair has been: "We care about our company, and we will work to reach a fair settlement." The company's latest move proves its true intentions all along have been: "We're looking for any excuse to unfairly slash employees' pay and benefits."

Rest assured that the Teamsters will not stand idly by while Comair diminishes the livelihoods of the very people who have worked tirelessly to ensure the carrier's success. The fact is, the flight attendants, members of Teamsters Local 513, have negotiated in good faith with the company all along. The Teamsters have submitted numerous contract proposals that would enable the airline to emerge from bankruptcy and not force undue hardship upon themselves.

The flight attendants understand that if their company is in dire straits, they will share the burden of necessary cuts. It's time that Comair acknowledges this, and negotiates a fair contract that enables the company and its entire workforce to thrive.
