Contemporary Issues in Counseling Focus of Book by Capella University Faculty

Dr. Pamela Patrick, faculty director for colloquia curriculum at Capella University, an accredited* The author of a new text book titled Contemporary Issues in Counseling (Allyn-Bacon) due out Oct. 9, 2006. The book also features chapters authored by six other faculty members from the online university’s Human Services.

The book aims to encourage readers to explore and analyze contemporary issues that face counselors practicing in a dynamic and changing environment. The issues are addressed within three sections: The Context for Counseling Practice, Applications to Counseling Practice, and Innovations in Counseling Practice.

“Counseling practice today is complex and ever-changing. We touch the lives of others on a daily basis as we practice in communities, in schools, and during times of extraordinary demand such as natural disaster or threats to safety and security,” Dr. Patrick said. “Staying on top of key issues that impact how counselors do what they do so well can prepare them for each next challenge.”

Dr. Patrick is the author of five books, and is an experienced conference and workshop speaker. She has more than 25 years experience as a psychologist in medical centers and private practice, and has been involved in child advocacy for more than 20 years. Her clinical expertise spans individual, family, couple and group counseling as well as specializations in parenting, medical psychology, oncology and stress management.
