Roberts Art Gallery in conjunction with the teachers of the Freshman Seminar class and the students for the Be The Change Club invite you to the second opening of Barbara Grover's photographs, "Refuge(e): Moments with the Darfuri of Iridimi". This Exhibit will be on display as a courtesy of the Sherry Frumkin Gallery and The Jewish World Watch.

Ms. Grover's insightful collection of photographs, taken in the Iridimi refugee camp in Chad in 2007, depict the daily life and plight of refugees displaced by the genocide in the Darfur region of the Western Sudan in Northeastern Africa.

This Exhibit's primary objective is to enhance public awareness of the tragic state of affairs in Darfur and raise funds for "Solar Cookers" to distribute to displaced families in that region. Darfuri women risk attack and rape on a daily basis when they venture out of their camps into the wilderness to forage for food and fuel (namely, firewood collection). The distribution of solar cookers to Darfuri women has proven a formidable combatant against such attacks and rapes by significantly reducing their dependence on wood-burning stoves. Solar cookers are an alternative source of energy designed to use sunlight as their energy source and advantageous because they use no fuel and cost nothing to operate. Please join us in promoting this worthy cause.

The Opening Reception will be held on January 27, 2009 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

This Exhibit will be on view from January 27, 2009 until February 3, 2009, by appointment only, Monday through Friday.

Roberts Art Gallery is situated on the campus of Santa Monica High School at 601 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, California 90405.
