SciQuest, Inc., the global leader empowering enterprises to realize the potential of strategic procurement, today announced that Florida State University (FSU) will implement the company's eprocurement solutions. The University's selection of SciQuest reflects FSU's longstanding commitment to generate savings and efficiencies that benefit staff members and taxpayers alike.

"In these difficult financial times, it is crucial that universities seek out technologies proven to extend the value of their resources, including finances and talent," said Paul Strouts, associate vice president for administration and interim CIO at FSU. "Our decision to implement eprocurement reflects our longstanding commitment to safeguard FSU's finances and provide faculty and staff with tools that empower them in their work."

FSU is one of the nation's premier research universities and serves more than 41,000 students through 16 colleges. SciQuest's technology will be used by all departments at the University. Together, these departments employ more than 6,000 people.

SciQuest offers a full suite of on-demand eprocurement and supplier enablement applications that automate the entire purchasing process. The company's Spend Director(TM) and Order Manager products will be fully integrated with FSU's existing OMNI enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, a PeopleSoft product. The integration of Spend Director will provide users with an enhanced shopping experience in the "OMNI E-Market," the University's name for the comprehensive online, Web-based eprocurement system.

With Spend Director, users can quickly purchase the goods and services they need through extensive online catalogs or "punch out" to suppliers' Web sites -- all in an online shopping environment similar to those enjoyed by consumers at popular ecommerce sites. Intuitive and easy-to-use, Spend Director empowers users to search for, compare and purchase the goods and services they need while fostering the adoption and widespread use required to bring all spending under management.

In turn, organizations gain the real-time visibility into enterprise-wide spending required to negotiate volume discounts and other more favorable terms and conditions with suppliers. The system also eliminates the labor-intensive and costly paperwork associated with manual procurement processes.

FSU will also use Order Manager, SciQuest's solution for automating electronic purchase order distribution, to seamlessly create purchase orders from user requisitions and distribute them electronically to FSU's suppliers. The entire process will be transparent, allowing users to check the status of their orders online and freeing procurement departments to spend more time assisting users in the purchase of big ticket items or the negotiation of more strategic contracts.

"At most colleges and universities, spending by employees on the goods and services they need to do their jobs is only eclipsed by payroll and investments in capital projects," said Stephen Wiehe, president and CEO of SciQuest. "SciQuest's intuitive applications are designed with the needs of employees and procurement professionals in mind. Through their complete integration with existing ERP solutions, they empower our customers to simultaneously bring significant areas of spending under management while increasing the value of existing IT investments."
