BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), a leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety today announced an award from the Kettering, Ohio Police Department for MobileOffice(TM) mobile reporting software and related services. With this award, officers on patrol will be able to complete incident and crash reports from laptops in their vehicles and transmit them wirelessly to headquarters, using BIO-key's MobileOffice mobile data solution.

Kettering's police department has been a MobileCop(R) customer since 1998 and has been using BIO-key's mobile reporting software for completing traffic citations in the field for several years. The new software, which will collect data and produce standardized reports required by Ohio and national reporting guidelines, is already in use in other BIO-key customer sites in Ohio. The ability to create and submit reports electronically keeps officers in the field, rather than behind a desk completing paper forms, allowing them to be more productive and visible to the general public.

Another key benefit of electronic reporting according to Andrew Hittle, Kettering Police Department's Information Technology Manager, is increased report accuracy and quality. "Our experience with handwritten traffic citations was that the information can be illegible or misinterpreted. With electronic reporting, the information and the officer's intent are crystal clear," Hittle said.

The MobileOffice reporting module is fully integrated with MobileCop enabling relevant information returned from MobileCop federal and state database queries, such as driver and vehicle information from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, to be dragged and dropped into reports resulting in reduced errors and minimal officer work.

Because the reports are submitted electronically from the scene, they can then be reviewed on-line by supervisors. "With our MobileOffice suite of reporting solutions, a report can be sent back for correction or additional information immediately, while the incident is still fresh in the officer's mind, further ensuring accuracy and completeness," noted Ken Souza, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BIO-key's Law Enforcement Division. "And given the dramatic increase in fuel costs we've seen over the last year, eliminating the need for officers to drive to the station to submit or update their reports can help reduce the strain on agency budgets."
