Carolyn's Compassionate Children (CCC), is awarding high school senior and cancer survivor Leanna Elizalde with a $2,500 Survivorship Award after she crosses the stage at Woodland High School's graduation ceremony Saturday. Alex Oden, 20, a two-time brain cancer survivor and CCC scholar alum, will present the check to Leanna and her family after the ceremony.

"Our goal is to raise an additional $10,000 dollars for Leanna's Scholarship Fund," said Carolyn Rubenstein, founder and president of Carolyn's Compassionate Children (CCC). "We have already secured an anonymous donor who is willing to match up to $2,000 dollars for Leanna's college tuition fund. We are asking for others to help this amazing young lady to realize her dreams of going to college."

Diagnosed with cancer in October, Leanna has managed to keep up with her studies while persevering through radiation and surgery. "She would get so scared when she was getting her MRIs," said her mother, Lupe Ramirez. "She told me, 'Mom, if I live through all of this I want to become a radiologist one day, so that I can tell other kids who are going through the same thing to not be scared. I went through it, and I'm OK.'"

100% of every dollar donated will go directly to the Leanna Elizalde College Scholarship Fund. To donate online go to http://www.change.org/ccc or call (617) 510-6904 for more information.

CCC's mission statement: Every cancer survivor deserves the chance to receive a college education. Yet the burden of mounting medical debt, side effects of treatment, and limited access to financial resources leaves many young adult cancer survivors with little hope of attending college. CCC is a 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for young adult cancer survivors through our annual college scholarship program.

CCC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
