The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Administrator, Henrietta Fore, hosted an Iftaar dinner last night at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C. Professor Ingrid Mattson, President of the Islamic Society of North America, was the featured guest.

"This is a sacred time for people of the Islamic faith. It is a time of fasting, prayers, worship and contemplation; and it is a time to strengthen family and community relations and provide charity to those in need," said Acting Administrator Fore. She emphasized the importance of Muslim communities in our country and the vital role that Muslim foreign service nationals play in our foreign assistance programs.

"We are proud to be working hand-in-hand with Muslim populations around the globe to achieve peace and prosperity worldwide," said Fore.

The dinner brought together dignitaries from U.S. and foreign governments, as well as members of the faith community, to celebrate the breaking of the fast during the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. In attendance was the Ambassador from the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as diplomatic representatives from the Embassies of Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
