Dairy farmers and enthusiasts are invited to learn how fresh milk products -- like cheese, ice cream and flavored milk -- are made on the farm, said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff.

The first-ever "Blue Ribbon Cows Making Blue Ribbon Cheese, Ice Cream and More" will be held at the All-American Dairy Show on Monday, Sept. 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, Harrisburg.

"Consumers are seeking farm-fresh dairy products, so dairy producers are meeting that demand by processing cheese, ice cream and other dairy products right on the farm," said Wolff. "By targeting these niche markets, producers can increase their profitability and that, in turn, keeps the region's dairy industry thriving."

The "Blue Ribbon" event will showcase products from at least 10 different regional farms, including Emerald Valley Cheese from Scenery Hill; Hillacres Pride from Peach Bottom; Way-Har Farms of Bernville; Yoder's Golden Guernsey Farm Market of East Earl; the Pennsylvania Farmstead & Artisan Cheese Alliance of Newburg; and Oak Spring Dairy, Upperville, Va.

Each processor will offer fresh samples of their products and will be available to share their knowledge and experiences of on-farm processing.

In addition, several dairy equipment companies -- including Agri-Services LLC of Hagerstown, Md.; and Fisher & Thompson of Leola -- will set up displays and demonstrations showing how to process milk into different products.

The All-American Dairy Show is considered the largest dairy show in the world, attracting thousands of exhibitors and visitors from across the country and Canada. Held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, the facility offers free admission and parking, and is conveniently located to major highways, hotels and restaurants.
