American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL) Chairman Thomas A. Nassif, a former US ambassador to Morocco, was among a group of nine Arab-American leaders that met with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington. Ambassador Nassif thanked the Secretary for the Administration's rapid response in getting equipment to the Lebanese army, which has been locked in battle with the militant Fatah al-Islam since May 20. He also thanked the Secretary for the $770 million for Lebanon in the appropriations supplemental bill.

Among the topics discussed were the destabilization of Lebanon, Israel's need to turn over cluster-bomb target coordinates to the UN, the tribunal to try those involved in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Al Hariri, the Middle East peace process, and the nature of the US dialogues with Syria and Iran.

Ambassador Nassif said: "This was an excellent opportunity to discuss some of the important issues for the United States and Lebanon. I hope the success of this dialogue will encourage more frequent meetings to expand upon several other issues of concern to both countries."
