Teachers, administrators and school districts have reason to celebrate today. KnowledgeWorks Foundation's Educator's Knowledge Network (EKN) is holding its fourth professional learning event, "Sharing and Innovating Together," at The Bertram Inn in Aurora, OH.

EKN has been up and running for only a year but has indirectly affected the classrooms of thousands of students while directly affecting hundreds of teachers. As an online professional learning community in which teachers exchange ideas and support each other, EKN has attracted over 630 members, 2600 discussion posts and 800 teacher-contributed knowledge artifacts. In addition, EKN has helped several teachers create alternate routes to leadership opportunities.

EKN is a progressive way for teachers to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues involved in OHSTI across the state. As a peer-to- peer knowledge sharing community, EKN offers a way for teachers to bridge their isolation and develop 21st-century skills while continuously improving practice and increasing their professional engagement. Today, at the Bertram, over 130 teachers are sharing success strategies, solving classroom problems, and exchanging ideas through peer-led workshops.

When back at school, small school teachers can continue the connection through the online network. Past EKN event participants have reported feeling supported in meeting the challenges and celebrating the successes associated with school change. The online network lets them share and collaborate even when they are hundreds of miles away. EKN is truly a community created by teachers for teachers.
