Winner Announced in National Ultimate Proposal Contest

Jewelry Information Center (JIC), the consumer education arm of Jewelers of America, is thrilled to announce that America has voted and chosen, "Gloves at the Shoe," a proposal story submitted by Ohio-resident Hayley Wood, as the Ultimate Proposal Story. JIC's Ultimate Proposal Contest, a nationwide search for the best proposal story, invited couples to submit their special proposal stories at JIC's jewelry-focused website, www.JIC.org, and asked America to vote for a favorite. Ms. Wood and her fiance, Daniel, won a getaway for two in Santorini, Greece, a platinum-and-diamond necklace and a $1,000 gift card.
"'Gloves at the Shoe' is a timeless romance story made possible by a lot of planning, creativity and college tradition," says Amanda Gizzi, spokesperson for Jewelry Information Center. "Those factors mixed with a sparkling diamond ring and two people in love made 'Gloves at the Shoe' JIC's 2010 Ultimate Proposal Story."
To win the top prize, Hayley Wood poignantly told her proposal story, carefully detailing the emotion and events that led to her proposal becoming America's Ultimate Proposal Story. Ms. Wood, an Ohio State University girl, and Daniel, a Notre Dame boy, met and fell in love. For the proposal, Daniel arranged to "sneak" into Ohio University's football stadium (The Horseshoe) and had Hayley carry a "Secret Santa" gift all the way unaware that it contained Italian-leather gloves with an engagement ring placed on the third finger.
