TERI, Inc., a national leader providing training, education and research programs for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities, today announced a first-of-its-kind service offering comprehensive Special Needs Life Quality Plans(TM) for families and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities.
The unique plans, available now through the TERI-led International Association for Life Quality (www.ialq.org), provide a highly detailed profile and "happiness" roadmap developed specifically for the family member with a disability. Gathered from a comprehensive two to three hour phone interview by experienced Life Quality assessors, the plan reports on a parent and/or primary care giver's experiences, expertise, and knowledge, as well as the subtle nuances distinctive to the individual for whom the plan is designed.
"Many parents find themselves continually starting at square one when working with new circle of support members such as new doctors, teachers and caregivers," says Dr. Krysti DeZonia, Director of the International Association for Life Quality and co-founder of TERI, Inc. "This detailed plan helps everyone get up to speed quickly and allows the best level of support to be initiated immediately. The plan leaves nothing out about the individual and goes far beyond a simple letter of intent. Planning for a happy, quality life should be an integral part of the special needs legal, financial and school transition process."
Dr. DeZonia is the parent of a young adult son who has profound and multiple developmental disabilities. Her research has shown that the more a caregiver understands and can relate to the personality and highly unique needs of an individual, the better that care becomes.
Through its online academy, the Association will also offer certification for Special Needs Life Quality Coaches beginning in the third quarter of 2009. This specialized training and certification, also the first of its kind, was designed to further support families and those individuals with special needs in carrying out goals outlined in the Life Quality Plan(TM).
The International Association for Life Quality (IALQ), launched April 1, 2009, serves as a repository for research, training and resources relative to improving the life quality of those with autism and other developmental disabilities, and their families.
