50 million euro orders for technology in 3 German cruise ships

Gouda, the Netherlands - Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) has announced that it has received orders worth over 50 million euro for a variety of technological solutions in three cruise ships to be built in Germany. In the market of cruise ship construction there is a growing demand for ever bigger and more luxurious cruise ships. Imtech holds a strong position in the cruise ship market and provides (elements of) the relevant technological solutions on board these ships, including platform automation, communications, navigation, security (including fire prevention), monitoring & control and comfort (air conditioning and climate control). The German Meyer Werft in Papenburg has just placed an order with Imtech for three of its cruise ships. Each of the ships is over 315 metres in length, offering space for over 1,425 passenger cabins for two or more persons. With a beam of almost 36.8 metres, these ships are in the ’post-Panamax’ class; ships in this class have a beam in excess of 32.2 metres (the width of the Panama Canal). On board of these three very large cruise ships, Imtech is responsible for the advanced air conditioning and climate control technology. The application of innovative technology brings about not only a considerable reduction in energy consumption, but will also make individual comfort control possible in virtually all the passenger cabins. The order was acquired by Imtech Schiffbau-/Dockbautechnik (part of Imtech Deutschland) in Germany. The first ship will be completed in 2008, followed by the second in 2009 and the third in 2010.
