The following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

SUNDAY, MARCH 23: BIG EGG HUNT

Profile America -- Sunday, March 23rd. Today is Easter Sunday, one of the most joyous days in the calendar of all Christian denominations. One of the ways the day is celebrated involves Easter eggs. Ancient Greeks, Persians and Chinese gave gifts of eggs at spring festivals and brightly colored ones were known as early as the middle ages. One of the biggest Easter egg hunts will take place in Homer, Georgia, today where 150,000 eggs have been hidden, including 100 containing prizes. So many eggs have been decorated across the U.S. that this coming week has been designated as Egg Salad Week. Americans eat an average of 254 eggs a year, 175 of them fresh and the rest in processed foods. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at http://www.census.gov.

Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau. These daily features are available as produced segments ready to air on a monthly CD or on Internet at http://www.census.gov (look under the "Newsroom" button).
