Once Singapore’s leading integrated building materials supplier, Hong Leong Asia has strategically evolved over the years to become one of the region’s major manufacturing players with presence in China and Southeast Asia. This has proved to be a successful diversification strategy, with its focus on the manufacturing and distribution industry in China and Southeast Asia. The Group is now well positioned with over 85 per cent of its market outside Singapore.
Hong Leong Asia has under its Consumer Products, Diesel Engines and Industrial Packaging arms, three leading China-based manufacturing businesses, namely Henan Xinfei (China’s second largest refrigerators, freezers and air-conditioners manufacturer), China Yuchai Group (China’s largest independent diesel engineers manufacturer), and Rex Industrial Packaging Division (manufacturer of industrial packaging containers).
The Group, under its Building Materials arm, owns and operates PT Kariumn Granite, Southeast Asia’s largest hard rock quarry operation located in the Northwest of the Indonesian island of Karimun. The quarry supplies marine rocks for reclamation works in Singapore in the surrounding region as well as raw materials for other Hong Leong Asia operations.
Hong Leong Asia has received awards and accolades twice in 2002 and 2003 from the Securities Investors Association of Singapore (SIAS), recognizing its effort in improving corporate transparency. It has been ranked 10th in the Singapore International 100 Ranking (ranked in terms of overseas revenue) organized by International Enterprise Singapore in February 2005
