The Art Institute of Indianapolis today introduces two new degree programs in fashion. The school is one of the only higher educational institutions in the Indianapolis area to offer bachelor's degree programs in Fashion Design and Fashion & Retail Management.
The school's fashion programs prepare graduates for entry-level career opportunities in such fields as fashion buying and merchandising, fashion design, computer aided and technical design, textiles design, manufacturing, retail management, fashion publicity and small business ownership. "By adding fashion to our suite of design programs, The Art Institute of Indianapolis now offers area-residents more choices for a creative, career- oriented education," said Madeleine Slutsky, president of The Art Institute of Indianapolis. "The combination of our Fashion Design and Fashion & Retail Management programs allows us to introduce students to both the creative and business aspects of the fashion industry. The depth of experience, exposure and perspective we provide our students gives them even more options when choosing their educational and career paths." The school's Fashion Design program focuses on the fundamentals of design and patternmaking. Students develop skills in illustration and design techniques, fashion show production and promotion as well consumer marketing. Alternatively, the Fashion & Retail Management program teaches students to develop, analyze and implement sales strategies including buying and merchandising practices, inventory control and cost analysis. This program teaches students drawing and design, fashion history, sales consultation, business basics, event planning and promotion, visual merchandising, textiles, trends and concepts in style, principles of accounting and an introduction to manufacturing. The Art Institute of Indianapolis Fashion Design and Fashion & Retail Management programs blend experienced faculty and hands-on, cross-functional training courses to provide students with a comprehensive education that prepares graduates for entry-level jobs in these highly competitive fields.
