Carl Baldwin Freidhoff, Ph.D., fellow engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Modeling, Simulation and Analysis Facility, has been named Cambridge Who’s Who Professional of the Year in Aerospace Electronics. While inclusion in Cambridge Who’s Who is itself an honor, only one member in each discipline is named Professional of the Year. The Cambridge selection committee hand picks these special honorees based on accomplishments, academic achievement, leadership, and service.

Dr. Freidhoff is the co-inventor of the mass spectrograph on a chip, including MEMS based-pumps with piezoelectric actuators. At Northrop Grumman, he has led programs on miniaturization of chemical sensors; electrostatically actuated, switched-phase shifted reflect arrays and filters; and an X-band time delay unit. Dr. Freidhoff has also been senior technical advisor in Northrop Grumman’s Advanced Technology Department and principal investigator at its Science and Technology Center.

Dr. Freidhoff received his master of science and Ph.D. in chemical physics from Johns Hopkins University and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Miami. He is a member of the International Society for Optical Engineering, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Vacuum Society, American Chemical Society and American Society of Mass Spectrometry. Dr. Freidhoff has been published in many journals and received Northrop Grumman’s President’s Leadership Award for the Electronic Systems Sector SD&T Division, a Boy Scouts of America District Award of Merit and the Thomas Arkle Clarke Award from Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
