Frost & Sullivan's landmark interactive electric vehicle (EV) workshop, one of the first events of its kind to combine parliamentary debates and industry presentation sessions, was a resounding success in terms of networking opportunities and helping businesses position themselves in the race toward the electric vehicle era. Most significantly, it confirmed that government, stakeholders and the industry are all very much on the same page with regard to the importance of a greener future.

Over the course of two days June 10th at the House of Commons and June 11th at the SMMT, representatives from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, infrastructure builders and the utility sector interacted closely with parliamentary delegates, took part in lively debates, productive roundtable discussions and presentations. Delegates were even able to try out demonstration vehicles including the Think City, the Modec van, the Segway and the Lightning GT.

The majority of participants in the debate chaired by Adam Afriyie, Shadow Minister for Science and Innovation and roundtable discussion hosted by Robert Goodwill, Shadow Minister for Roads solidly backed the view that the future lies in electric vehicles. It was agreed that government support for EV fleets and infrastructure development, falling battery pack prices and the shift toward anode battery technology, all bode well for EV technology, though infrastructure development remains a key issue. Also, new business models, for example innovative subscription based models, as well as energy packages are of potential interest to businesses outside the traditional automotive market. Presentations were given from companies such as Think, Dong Energy, HPL and Royal Mail.
