Fuji Xerox Australia and Global Green Plan Foundation - launched an environmentally-focused curriculum in Victoria modifying school adaptation of sustainable education. This unique initiative is supported

Fuji Xerox Australia, the leading Document Technology and Services Company with a commitment to sustainability, is encouraging and enabling schools to 'meet the challenge' and adopt Living in 2030; An Experiment in Survival - a set of education resources developed by the Global Green Plan Foundation and successfully piloted with Williamstown High School teachers and students.
Australia's most high-profile centenarian and Patron of the Global Green Plan Foundation, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE, has called for community engagement in the initiative. "We need a collective approach, we need an effective way into the community, we need education and motivation, and we need to continually energize the process through youth - and we need it on a global scale. We need a Global Green Plan."

Roger Pearce, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at Fuji Xerox, said the aim is to engage and educate students so they not only understand sustainability but also have the capacity to address related challenges in their daily lives. "Responding to sustainability issues requires new knowledge and skills. Education initiatives ranging from the classroom to the boardroom are required for solutions to be found. Fuji Xerox believes that teaching school children about environmental problems and how they can be solved will inspire these future leaders and ingrain practices that will help protect the planet for future generations."

The challenge launch was held at Williamstown High School's Bay view campus, which won the Victorian Premier's Sustainability Award in 2009 for its sustainable building design. The school was also the first to adopt the curriculum. Steve Cook, Campus Principal described its impact on students:
"The work produced by our students involved in this program is characterized by their creativity, passion for the environment and a real desire to make a difference. The curriculum provides facts whilst capturing imaginations and developing skills to address environmental challenges. The students' optimism and creativity in finding a positive future for the planet has been an inspiration to us all."
Pearce emphasized the focus of this initiative is to drive further curriculum uptake by schools. "These valuable teaching resources have been successfully tested by Williamstown High School. Our goal now is to help Global Green Plan promote the curriculum, train teachers and provide materials so that sustainability education can become more commonplace in Australian schools."
Hal Hewett, President of The Global Green Plan Foundation said "The students graduate from this school with the knowledge and skills to address environmental issues.

"We wish to see schools across Australia and around the world continue the work started at Williamstown High" said Hewett. "This will build a generation of people who are not only environmentally-aware but also one that has learned real life skills that will make a difference to the planet's future".
In recognition of the school's environmental efforts, Fuji Xerox gifted Williamstown High School its environmental award-winning multifunction device, the DocuCentre-III C2201, which will further decrease the school's environmental impact and enhance its responsible print practices.
