Today Yelp.com, the fastest growing and deepest source of information on local businesses, announced the launch of "About This Business" (accessible at http://biz.yelp.com), a free feature that allows small business owners to describe their business to prospective customers in their own words.
"Savvy local business owners know consumers come to Yelp just before they make a purchase decision," says Jeremy Stoppelman, Yelp's co-founder and CEO. "About This Business helps consumers learn even more about a business before spending their hard-earned money, which translates into more satisfied customers." "About This Business" is a feature that consumers can find on Yelp business profile pages. Business owners are able to highlight their specialties, provide a short history, introduce the manager/owner of the business and recommend up to five other businesses. "Local businesses are increasingly sophisticated about online reviews but they usually don't have a way to participate in the dialog or directly influence consumer perceptions," said Greg Sterling, founder Sterling Market Intelligence. "The new 'About This Business' feature enables them to offer more, relevant information and thus a way to join the conversation on Yelp." Owners can set up their "About This Business" page by going to http://biz.yelp.com. The information provided by the business will be posted immediately on their Yelp business profile page. "About This Business" is the latest addition to the free suite of small business marketing tools that the company launched in April 2008, which includes the ability to: post special offers, message customers who have written reviews, upload photos and update business information.
