LSI Backpack Program Supports Underprivileged Students Around the World |

LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that it will provide backpacks with school supplies to nearly 10,000 underprivileged students worldwide in 2008 as part of an ongoing program to improve K-12 education in communities where LSI employees live and work.
Through the LSI Backpack Program, LSI locations identify local schools in need of supplies and learning materials. After conferring with school administrators, LSI volunteers fill backpacks with supplies and deliver them to selected schools for distribution. Additionally, through financial support provided to community-based organizations, LSI is helping to extend the reach of similar backpack programs with the aim of serving as many students as possible. "We are all charged to think globally and act locally," said Abhi Talwalkar, LSI president and chief executive officer. "If we can help to level the playing field for one disadvantaged child, then we have made a local investment that could pay dividends for decades to come." The 2008 LSI Backpack Program kicked off in July in Bangalore, India, and continues in the UK and dozens of locations across the U.S. including Allentown, Pa., Colorado Springs, Colo., Ft. Collins, Colo., Norcross, Ga., and Wichita, Kan. This week, LSI expects to deliver backpacks to elementary schools in the Silicon Valley area of northern California. "Thanks to the generous support of LSI and its employees, our students and many others around the world will start off the school year on the right foot," said Dr. Karl Black, superintendent of the Milpitas (California) Unified School District. "We're very grateful for their contribution." The student backpack program is one component of the LSI Philanthropy and Community Enhancement (PACE) initiative. The long-range goal of the PACE program is to enrich education in math and sciences for grades K-12 and their equivalents around the world.
