Acuo Technologies, a market leading provider of comprehensive software solutions to the medical imaging industry for archiving, collaboration and migration services, is pleased to announce a fully integrated Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) solution

One of the most important trends in healthcare today is the need to share clinical content. Healthcare IT solutions today must further demonstrate agility in dealing with a massive amount of clinical content (growing exponentially), integration of that content across the enterprise and beyond. Healthcare enterprises are demanding standard based solutions for managing and sharing content while increasing the availability of the data and removing downstream migration requirements.

Current healthcare IT solutions typically continue to offer non standard approaches to managing clinical content. Clinical content is often locked up inside proprietary databases, storage systems, or other vendor technology requiring costly point-to-point interfaces to be created each time content needs to be shared or aggregated across the enterprise or outside of the enterprise (such as in a RHIO). Further, medical imaging has the same challenges but also a protocol (DICOM) which is difficult to extend across institutional boundaries.

Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) -- enables a number of healthcare delivery organizations belonging to a clinical affinity domain (e.g. a community of care) to cooperate in the care of a patient by sharing clinical records in the form of documents and images as they proceed with their patients' care delivery activities.

End to End Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS/XDS-I) -- IHE's IT Infrastructure Technical Framework offers the XDS integration profile, including XDS-I for medical imaging, which provides solutions to the problems of sharing clinical content across multiple applications and institutional boundaries.

Acuo's forthcoming release offers full support for XDS-I, if you are interested in how to share clinical records in the form of documents and images within your institution or outside the enterprise, such as a RHIO or IDN, then Acuo Technologies has the solution for you using XDS. "I am very excited about Acuo pioneering the XDS initiative. We feel the IHE frameworks are both strategic and important to the future or the Acuo product suite as they are to the future of the healthcare IT market. We view XDS, and XDS-I for images, as paving the way for a true standards based solution for disparate healthcare institutions and applications to share critical clinical content" stated Jeff Timbrook, CEO.

Acuo Technologies, an image management software company, will be demonstrating DICOM Services Grid(TM) software solutions that manage medical image storage and retrieval and integrate them with existing technology platforms based upon DICOM/HL7/XDS and IHE profiles. The technology demonstration will be held at Acuo Technologies Booth #8075 at the HIMSS annual meeting in Orlando Florida, February 24-28, 2008.
