Attendees of the Chrysler Arts, Beats and Eats festival in downtown Pontiac will be seeing green this Labor Day weekend. Several of The New Chrysler's environmental all-stars will be on display and buzzing around the streets of Pontiac as part of the 10th annual festival.

"ITC Green Street" will be home to environmental information, displays, and four of Chrysler's most environmentally-friendly offerings. Vehicles displayed on "Green Street," located on Wayne between Pike and Lawrence, will include:

-- 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel -- with 25 percent better fuel economy and lower greenhouse gas emissions than a comparable gas vehicle. The Grand Cherokee diesel is approved for use with B5 biodiesel fuel;

-- Chrysler Sebring 2.7-liter Flexible Fuel Vehicle, capable of running on clean, renewable, American-made E85 (ethanol) fuel;

-- Dodge Avenger 2.4-liter with 30 miles per gallon highway fuel economy; and

-- A four-passenger GEM all-electric, zero emission vehicle.

In addition, several Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) vehicles will serve as utility vehicles for the organizers of the weekend fair on the streets of downtown Pontiac.

GEM, a Chrysler company, produces six fully-electric vehicle models including two-, four- and six-passenger cars and utility vehicles. GEMs meet all Federal safety standards for low-speed vehicles and are legal in about 40 states. More than 35,000 GEM vehicles are in use worldwide, and GEM vehicles have been driven a combined 150 million miles and spared more than 100 tons of pollutants from reaching the air, while saving 7.5 million gallons of gasoline.

"At Chrysler, we want to have an environmentally-friendly vehicle to fit the lifestyle and needs of all our customers," said Deb Morrissett, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Chrysler. "So we offer clean diesels, fuel efficient gas engines such as our World Engine, vehicles that run on renewable fuels, and all-electric vehicles. And we will add our first hybrid to the fleet next year."

This is the 10th year that Chrysler has sponsored the Arts, Beats and Eats festival. More than one million people attend the Arts, Beats and Eats festival every year, with visitors coming from neighboring counties and cities. The New Chrysler is a good neighbor and good citizen and through its continued sponsorship, has helped Downtown Pontiac flourish and revitalize.

Chrysler is dedicated to protecting the health of its communities, natural resources and the global environment. The company addresses environmental challenges by working continuously to improve the environmental performance of its products and operations. The company supports the development of advanced sustainable technologies and is an industry leader in promoting the use of alternative fuels.
