As part of its ongoing commitment to education and empowerment, Ford Motor Company announced today its major support of the National Urban League's 2007 Economic Empowerment Tour, which will kick off June 12 in New York City and June 13 in Newark, NJ.

A grassroots event, this new initiative by the National Urban League seeks to educate and connect African-American and other low/moderate income families in Urban League cities to resources and information that help to close the economic gaps that exist in urban communities. It is a targeted community outreach effort focused on four areas that are essential to achieving true economic empowerment in the 21st century: increasing home ownership and preservation, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and better jobs.

"For decades, Ford Motor Company has been a staunch supporter of economic empowerment in communities across our nation," said Pamela Alexander, Director, Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. "By educating individuals about the tools and resources that are available, we can help people reach their fullest potential and realize their dreams. We are committed to investing in communities and providing these opportunities."

As a special component during the event's Career/Resource Fair, members of Ford Credit will be on hand to answer questions on insurance matters, offer credit guidance, and make available resources to the attendees. In addition, Ford Motor Company will also serve on the discussion panels for the town hall meetings.

"Educating consumers early about the importance of credit and maintaining it properly is so imperative for us to convey during the tour," said Carlos D. Treadway, director, Minority Dealer Relations & Multi-Cultural Affairs, Ford Motor Credit Company. "At Ford Credit we encourage our consumers to do research, and review all public resources before making purchases and determining financing options. We believe credit education is one of the keys to economic empowerment."

The tour is a multi-city outreach effort that will travel to New York/Newark, Chicago and Houston in 2007. For more information on the National Urban League's 2007 Economic Empowerment Tour, please visit http://www.nul.org.
