This Saturday, as catechumens begin their lives as a member of the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil services, Loyola Press is reaching out to these new Catholics by offering welcome gifts as they continue in their spiritual journey.
"As an apostolic publisher, we want to support the RICA participants and welcome them far beyond their local parish," said Fr. George A. Lane, President and Publisher of Loyola Press. "We are inspired every day to find ways to dynamically nurture others to live their faith." By highlighting various aspects of our faith, the welcome gift contains two books. From the kneelers, to the sign of peace, to the names of God, author Liz Kelly shares the 50 reasons she loves being Catholic in her book May Crowning, Mass and Merton. Through her vignettes she shares how she lives her faith in her daily life and how being Catholic has enriched her life, her writing, and her music. The Catholic Passion by David Scott illuminates the Catholic mysteries with insights of great Catholic figures of modern times including French composer Olivier Messiaen and human rights activist Harry Wu, among many others. The book reflects on prayer, the Bible, the sacraments, the Church and the God-made-human in Jesus Christ. In honor of its mission to nurture a lived faith through building relevant and enduring bridges between our 2000-year-old Catholic faith and the needs and desires of today's spiritual seekers, Loyola Press sent welcome bags to the RCIA directors and coordinators in several hundred parishes as part of a pilot program expected to expand in 2008.
