Over the past thirty years, point of sales (POS) systems have become a major focus of retail industry modernization. Many major retailers have realized increased profits and reduced losses as a result of integrating POS systems to collect accurate sales data. While large retailers used to rely on well-known brands such as IBM, a recent informal poll conducted by Vision Point of Sale revealed that the majority of their customers prefer to buy equipment from full service retailers who are dedicated to the POS business. Frank Muscarello, President and CEO of Vision Point of Sale, states, "Many of our customers, mostly large retail chains, prefer to procure their POS systems through a full service retailer such as Vision because we can provide the equipment, install it and offer expert customer service."

Innovator in IT solutions for over thirty years. However, POS systems are just a part of the diverse product line they offer and not the basis of their business. As a result, large retailers are choosing retailers such as Vision Point of Sale because they are dedicated to the POS business and able to provide expert, individualized solutions and service. Customers also have the freedom of choosing POS products from IBM, Symbol, NCR or Fujitsu.

Further, a recent report issued by IHL Consulting Group showed a five percent increase in POS purchases last year in North America. The previous two years showed an increase in POS sales of fifteen percent and eight percent. Part of the decrease in POS sales is because large retailers are choosing to refurbish and service their existing POS systems. Greg Buzek, president of IHL, found a substantial amount of older CPUs in use and said, "Retailers tend not to buy the souped up version of anything."

As a result, over sixty percent of retailers are choosing to purchase POS systems through full service retailers, such as Vision Point of Sale, that offer refurbished and used replacement components for PoS systems. Large retailers seem to prefer outstanding, prompt service to innovative equipment and as a result, are increasingly turning away from large, conglomerate OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) such as IBM. Mr. Muscarello says, "We assist retailers in finding the ideal POS product line for their type of business. Our company not only offers state-of-the-art new gear, but unbeatable service and the ability to replace failed gear to keep your investment working for you."

POS systems are extremely beneficial to the retail industry. Such systems provide accurate point of sale statistics that enable stores to review supply and demand levels, effectively restock shelve and respond accurately to customer demand. A POS system also reduces loss prevention to save stores money and lowers the cost of goods by using bar code scanners to identify products. A bar code scanner makes the checkout process quicker and more efficient so that customers are handled in less time. The barcode scanner also ensures the accuracy of all transactions. Overall, a POS system makes a company operate more efficiently. After a recent POS system upgrade in the San Clemente, California Community Development and Beaches, Parks and Recreation Departments, Tom Redina, finance manager for the city stated, "From the standpoint of Community Development the outcome is...positive. The new software and POS system has reduced a significant amount of time [spent on daily process work."
