Manteo, NC - May 16, 2014 -- The Dare County Arts Council will host Rock the Cape, surf rock and music festival, May 30 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Koru Village’s Beach Klub in Avon, North Carolina.

North Carolina surf rock legends Southern Culture on the Skids will return for their second show on Cape Hatteras to headline Rock the Cape.

“Hey Outer Banks we (SCOTS) can't wait to get back to Koru’s Beach Klub for the Dare County Arts Council Fundraiser. It's gonna be rockin' grooves for surfing feet with the deepest reverb on the beach. All for a cause that can't be beat! Good times guaranteed,” said Rick Miller from Southern Culture on the Skids.

Outer Banks band Eddy and the Rip Tides, Virginia’s Cashmere Jungle Lords, and students from the Dare County Arts Council’s Community School program will be playing throughout the day.

“Cashmere Jungle Lords is pleased to participate in Rock the Cape. It's an excellent opportunity for us to give something back to a community that has given so much to us. We feel blessed to be able to support the Dare Country Arts Council's mission and perform again with our old friends, Southern Culture on the Skids,” said lead singer, guitarist, and chief songwriter of Cashmere Jungle Lords, Dominic Carpin.

This year, Rock the Cape will feature a live art happening with a Cape Hatteras mural painted collectively by the audience, led by local artist Chris Kemp of the Garage Arts Guild. The live art happening is hosted by the Outer Banks Surfrider Foundation and Milepost Magazine.

Tickets for the event are $12 in advance and $18 at the door. Tickets are available now online at brownpapertickets.com/event/612417.

In the last several years, Hatteras Island has suffered through hurricanes, shifting sands that cover the highways and bridge closings. The galleries, music venues and independent artists of Hatteras Island have suffered economically as a result of this periodic isolation from the outside world. Rock the Cape’s goal is to launch the summer season in style and let visitors from throughout the United States know that Hatteras is open for business.

Proceeds from Rock the Cape benefit Dare County Arts Council’s arts programming, with a special emphasis on arts programs for Hatteras Island and music lessons for children who otherwise would not be able to afford them. Kids from DCAC’s music program, the Community Music School, will perform at the show as well.

This project is sponsored by the Outer Banks Visitor’s Bureau.
