Children's Health Fund Responds to Public Health Crisis in Lower Plaquemines Parish With Launch of Crisis Response Unit to Serve Children and Families Impacted by the BP Oil Spill

The following is being issued by the Children's Health Fund:

WHO:

CHF President & co-Founder Irwin Redlener, M.D., will be joined by Jane Pauley, CHF Board Member and Chair of CHF's Advisory Council, representatives from Tulane University and the Plaquemines Community C.A.R.E Centers Foundation, Inc. and local residents for the commemorative launch of the new crisis response unit.

WHAT:

New Crisis Response Unit will bring badly needed medical, mental, and public health services to families in lower Plaquemines Parish—a medically underserved region that has yet to rebuild a permanent health care facility after Hurricane Katrina. A multi-disciplinary team will serve the region via a mobile medical clinic where clinical assessments, evaluations, counseling and referrals will be provided for the more than 5,900 children in the area, whose parents reported significant medical and mental health needs after the BP oil spill.
