American Rivers, the nation's leading river conservation organization, will release "America's Most Endangered Rivers: 2010 Edition" on June 2. The annual report spotlights the ten most imperiled rivers in the country. This year, as part of the 25th anniversary of the report, American Rivers will also highlight endangered river success stories where our publicity and advocacy has led to important victories.

Rivers in Alabama, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania and West Virginia will be named as Endangered Rivers of 2010. Success Stories will be named in Alaska, California, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The America's Most Endangered Rivers announcement will be made jointly with local organizations, which may arrange for press conferences and photo opportunities near the designated rivers. Representatives of these groups and American Rivers staff are available for interviews, television appearances and radio talk shows.

Advance materials are available on an embargoed basis for journalists who agree not to run their stories prior to 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on June 2.

About America's Most Endangered Rivers

Each year, American Rivers reviews nominations for the America's Most Endangered

Rivers™ report from river groups and concerned citizens across the country. Rivers are selected based upon the following criteria:

A major decision (that the public can help influence) in the coming year on the proposed action
The significance of the threat to human and natural communities
The degree to which the proposed action would exacerbate or alleviate stresses caused by climate change

The report is a call to action and emphasizes solutions for the rivers and their communities. By shining the spotlight on key decisions that will impact the rivers, and by providing clear actions the public can take on their behalf, the report is a powerful tool for saving these important rivers.
