Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that on 18 October 2006, more than 9,000 Motorola employees in 75 cities representing 40 countries will take time off work to volunteer in their local communities as part of the company's first Global Day of Service.

Acting on its values and continuing Motorola's heritage of community service, Motorola volunteers will paint, plant, teach and clean at more than 240 project sites such as schools, libraries and non-government organizations. For example, employees will:

-- Paint classrooms at an elementary school in Cordoba, Argentina

-- Weed, water and fertilize newly planted trees on the slopes of Tai Mo Shan in Hong Kong

-- Prepare an American Red Cross warehouse for hurricane relief in Plantation, Florida

-- Build a playground at a children's hospital in St. Petersburg, Russia

-- Counsel disadvantaged girls on careers in computers in Hyderabad, India

-- Buy food, cook and feed street children at their homeless shelter in Cape Town, South Africa

-- Build a library for an elementary school in Flensburg, Germany

-- Plant trees and shrubs, clear non-native plants and collect seeds at a nature center in Schaumburg, Illinois

"Motorola and its employees care about the communities where we work and live, and we're rolling up our sleeves to show it," said Ed Zander, Motorola chief executive officer. "We're creating links between our communities and our employees that will last beyond the day of service. And, of course, it's going to be a lot of fun for all involved."

Thousands of employees also will participate in in-office projects such as donating books, school supplies and clothing to people in need.

The event is organized by Motorola volunteers and the Motorola Foundation, which has supported education and community services worldwide since 1953.
