Micron Technology, Inc.

For nearly 40 years, road race enthusiasts have traveled to Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula to test their mettle in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, arguably the world’s most intense off-road race. For the first time in the race’s history, every moment of a team’s participation in this year’s SCORE Baja 1000 from Nov. 15-18 will be captured digitally compliments of Micron Technology’s innovative image sensor and advanced flash memory technology.

Micron is sponsoring four vehicles specially equipped with Micron DigitalClarity™ image sensors and Lexar Professional CompactFlash™ memory cards to capture and store video of the more than 1,000 mile race. Lexar is a Micron subsidiary.

“Micron executives are also participating in this competition,” said Steve Appleton, Micron Chairman, CEO and President. “We help our customers capture, move and store data with our imaging and memory solutions, and this is a great way for our leadership team to experience firsthand how our products perform in real applications.”

“If our industry-leading image sensors and NAND flash memory solutions are durable enough to perform in conditions like the SCORE Baja 1000, the technologies will operate seamlessly in today’s automotive, mobile phone, consumer electronic and computing devices,” added Appleton. “With our NAND flash memory drives with solid-state technology and no moving parts, there is no fear that the data will be lost in the action of the competition.”

Behind Every Great Digital ImageŽ With its superior image quality, Micron is the leading supplier of CMOS image sensors in the technology industry today. The company’s imaging solutions can be found in a variety of applications from mobile phones and PC cameras to security and healthcare products. Micron also provides best-in-class image sensors to the automotive industry, with its image chips designed into backup cameras, parking, lane departure warning and several other safety navigation systems in various makes and models of automobiles worldwide.

At Baja, Micron is equipping its four vehicles with two specially designed automotive imaging solutions mounted to the frame of the vehicles. One imaging chip will record images that the drivers and passengers will view through the front of the vehicles, while the other will record the drivers and passengers themselves in action behind the wheel. With high dynamic range and low-light capabilities, Micron image sensors are the ideal solution for a broad range of environmental and lighting conditions.

Additionally, Micron’s NAND flash memory recorders installed in the vehicles will contain a series of 8 gigabyte (GB) Lexar Professional CompactFlash memory cards. Trusted by professional photographers, the memory cards provide a high-speed, high-capacity removable storage solution that brings out the ultimate performance in digital still and video recording equipment.

The Micron Technology Wide Open Baja Challenge Micron is the title sponsor of the Micron Technology Wide Open Baja Challenge presented by BFGoodrich, a class of the overall SCORE Baja 1000 competition that is the largest “arrive and drive” professional motorsports event in the world and will feature an event record 20 vehicles this year. The race is a natural fit for Micron, a company that is no stranger to the highs and lows of competition. Since 1978, Micron has competed globally in the volatile memory industry, and the company is the last United States-based memory manufacturer.

“For Micron, the challenge of competing in the SCORE Baja 1000 is an odyssey that combines our competitive spirit with our drive to engineer the most advanced digital technology solutions in the world,” said Appleton.

Micron will be displaying one of its Baja vehicles and visiting imaging customers in California, Chicago, and Detroit from Sept. 28 through the first two weeks of October. Starting October 16, Micron and a Baja vehicle will be on display at the Convergence 2006 automotive electronics show in Detroit.
