In a celebratory event attended by international dignitaries including His Highness, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, His Excellency, Ambassador Mohammed Al Murad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the UN, and Robert Jackson, Chairman of the Education Committee of the New York City Council, a new school building, designed by TPG Architecture (TPG), was inaugurated at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York (ICCNY). ICCNY is the largest and most important Islamic Institution in New York City, established in the 1960's, serving the Muslim community of over 800,000 who live here.

TPG's scope of work involved approximately 60,000 square feet and included the school interior, administrative offices within the adjoining Mosque and the exterior plaza. The school interior features classrooms, a computer lab, library, full high-school size basketball gymnasium, cafeteria and serving kitchen. Series of square motifs in different sizes, colors and materials are found throughout the school, responding to the Mosque's geometrical theme and to provide fun, imaginative & playful environment for the children to be educated.

In a statement made at the event by Ambassador Abdullah Ahmad Al-Murad, "As this school opens its doors to the children of the Islamic community. . .one of the main objectives. . .is to instill the true principles of Islamic education in our children which are based on sharing, caring, fraternity and tolerance, so they will grow up to be good citizens."

TPG Architecture was founded in 1979 and has grown from its initial dual partnership to a design firm of approximately staff, with offices in New York City, Long Island and London. While its core competencies are in corporate and retail design, the firm has cultivated practice groups in education, broadcast, architecture, healthcare and branding and graphics. TPG has recently completed work on the headquarters relocation of EMI Music Publishing in the Chelsea Market building; and the new League headquarters for the NHL. TPG is presently completing the renovations to the Manhattan Headquarters for the Hess Corporation and retail renovations to the historic Chelsea Market Building.
