Parents today are all looking for fun and unique ways to teach their children about responsibility and eco-friendly practices. "Hip Hip Hurray We Found Teddy!: A Book Series to Teach Children Practical Life Skills and Eco-Friendly Skills" (published by AuthorHouse), by debut author Silvia Sullivan, is an educational book aiming to teach children useful life lessons such as being organized, apologizing to others when you are at fault, and most importantly, environmentally friendly practices that will benefit both themselves and others.

This story is centered around its main character, Mouse, and his two friends, Meerkat and Monkey. Mouse is very organized and likes harmony and organization in his home in order to emulate the orderly rhythms of nature. He also practices "green routines" on a daily basis -- he uses his own reusable shopping bags at the market, he makes his own fresh orange juice in the morning and he uses a compost heap to recycle all his organic garbage. Sullivan writes:

Mouse was thankful for the wonder of trees. For this reason, once a week after breakfast, early in the morning, he planted trees everywhere he could. He did this so that others in the future could enjoy the nature he enjoyed.

"Hip Hip Hurray We Found Teddy!" also promotes other eco-friendly practices such as riding a bike instead of driving a car and buying organic fresh produce at your local farmer's market. The story has its climax when Mouse's friends enter his house without his permission and make a huge mess of almost every room. When Mouse discovers that his two friends were responsible for this mess, he insists that they help him clean up. The three friends work together to get the house back in shape and all realize the important lessons of respect, responsibility, and the value of friendships.

About the Author: Silvia Sullivan was born in Colombia in 1968. She married an American in 1995 and emigrated to the United States that same year after graduating from college with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Her passion for psychology led her to go to graduate school in 1996, and she graduated with two master's degrees from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc. As a cancer survivor, Sullivan has been inspired to become more environmentally aware and now leads an organic lifestyle. "I believe the changes I made in my life as far as eating organic and using eco-friendly products has allowed me to be in remission for more than 11 years now," she says. Sullivan is now a stay-at-home mom taking care of her three young children and is excited to be starting her new endeavor as a writer of children's books.
