The Multicore Association(TM), a global non-profit organization focused on developing standards that help speed time to market for products that involve multicore implementations, announced today that Samsung Electronics has joined the consortium as an executive board member. The Multicore Association is working to enable the widespread adoption of multicore processor-based implementations by setting standards for how systems will be utilized and programmed. As a provider of semiconductors, mobile phones, DTVs and many other consumer electronics products, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will help the Multicore Association drive standards for deploying multicore solutions in the consumer electronics sector.
"Samsung is a leader in advanced semiconductor solutions representing many processor architectures and many applications," said Multicore Association President Markus Levy. "Their involvement with the Multicore Association will provide very well-rounded guidance and a practical perspective on designing with multicore technology."
"As the computing power required by CE devices is increasing, multicore is becoming increasingly relevant to consumer electronics, especially for mobile internet devices, which require low power consumption as well as high performance," said Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology Senior Vice President, Banghun Chun. "We hope our contribution to MCA will accelerate the development of multicore solutions for CE devices and strengthen multicore programming practices. We are excited about the potential of the Multicore Association and we look forward to working with our partners to move the technology forward."
The Multicore Association provides three levels of membership, with executive board, working group, and university members. The executive board helps determine the overall direction of the organization. Working group members are eligible to work on any of the working groups. University members may participate in any of the Multicore Association's ongoing development work, for which current projects include multicore virtual machine standardization, multicore resource management, multicore programming practices, and debug functionality to support the recently released Multicore Communication API (MCAPI).
