Global Sources' Chairman and CEO, Merle A. Hinrichs, said: "I would like to thank Global Sources team members for opening their hearts to the people of Sichuan province.
"Their donations of RMB 1,000,000 far exceeded the goal we had originally set for team members. Because of their amazing generosity, the company has decided to match the full amount donated for a total of RMB 2,000,000."
Global Sources previously donated RMB 500,000 to various charities in China. The newly-donated RMB 1,500,000 has now been distributed as follows:
-- RMB 500,000 for the China Youth Development Foundation ( ) to help rebuild a school in Sichuan province.
-- RMB 500,000 to the Red Cross of China ( ), which now has volunteers in the affected areas actively assisting with relief efforts.
-- RMB 500,000 for the Half the Sky Foundation ( ) to provide care for children orphaned by the earthquake.
Executive Director of Half the Sky Foundation, Jenny Bowen, said: "We're extremely grateful to Global Sources and its team members for their generosity. Their contributions will help us to provide long-term care and emotional support for children in Sichuan who have tragically lost one or both parents to the earthquake."
Hinrichs added: "We salute the Chinese government and charities like Half the Sky that have done an outstanding job providing emergency relief to those who need help most."
