Winning an Olympic Gold Medal is quite an accomplishment; winning six from two Olympic Games is unbelievable. However for Phoenix local Amy Van Dyken, that is exactly what this Village Health Club member has done. To honor her amazing accomplishments as a world-class swimmer, Van Dyken will be inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame on June 19th 2008, a month before the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

From 1996 - 2000, Van Dyken earned the top spots on awards platforms at competitions such as the Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan Am Games, and World Trials. Van Dyken's six Olympic gold medals were won in the following events: 4x 100M Freestyle Relay, Sydney 2000; 4X 100M Medley Relay, Sydney 2000; 50M Freestyle, Atlanta 1996; 100M Butterfly, Atlanta 1996; 400M Freestyle Relay, Atlanta 1996; 400M Medley Relay, Atlanta 1996. During the 1996 Atlanta Games Amy was the first American woman to earn four Gold Medals in one Olympic Games.

In addition to reaching her own achievements, Van Dyken helps others reach their swimming potential and individual goals. As an assistant swim coach for the Village swim team, which practices at Camelback Village and DC Ranch Village Health Clubs, she passes her enthusiasm and passion for swimming onto the younger generation, instilling dreams of Olympic Gold in her students.

"It is such a joy to teach the kids swim techniques and to watch them reach their personal goals," says Van Dyken. "Teaching kids the importance of setting goals and reaching them, and showing them through my successes that it can be done, is a treat for me."

For more information on Van Dyken and her accomplishments go to her web site at
