7UP and Celebrity Chef Carlos Fernandez Search for 100% Naturally Talented Chefs with 7UP Recipe for Success Contest

7UP is teaming up with celebrity Chef Carlos Fernandez of Hi-Life Cafe in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to cook up the ultimate recipe for success with the 7UP Recipe for Success nationwide contest. Beginning today, Latinos across the country will be able to put their creative cooking skills to the test for a chance to win $70,000 and make their dreams a reality -- whether their dream is to open their own restaurant or to remodel their kitchen. Celebrity Chef Carlos Fernandez will judge all of the 7UP-infused recipe entries to decide who gets crowned the 7UP 100% Naturally Talented Chef.

"The 7UP Recipe for Success contest taps directly into the Latino passion for culinary creativity and experimentation, and encourages contestants to bring these talents to life with the natural lemon-lime flavors of 7UP," said Andrew Springate, vice president of marketing for Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, the makers of 7UP. Beginning April 28 through July 28, contestants can submit their original 7UP-infused recipes online at http://www.Receta7UP.com, via mail or at in-store demos in select markets. All entries must be received by Aug. 5, 2008. Chef Carlos will review each entry and, using a small judging panel, test his favorites. Ultimately, he will narrow the selection to seven lucky participants who will cook their recipes live in-studio with Chef Carlos. The final cook-off will be shown during Telemundo's Cada Dia in September. Chef Carlos will lead the final in-studio judging and crown one winner with the title of 7UP 100% Naturally Talented Chef and award the $70,000 grand prize to fulfill their dreams.

Chef Carlos' passion for cooking began as a child, watching and helping his mother cook in their New Jersey home. Never imagining he could make a career as a chef, he first enrolled in an engineering college, only to realize his passion for cooking was too strong. Although he lacked any professional culinary training, he dove right in to the restaurant business and has never looked back.

"Hispanics pride themselves in their flavorful cuisine," said Chef Carlos Fernandez. "Contestants participating in the 7UP Recipe for Success contest will be able to experiment with a flavor they recognize, to develop what could be a winning recipe."

A former contestant on Bravo's Top Chef and chef/co-owner of Hi-Life Cafe in South Florida, Chef Carlos will host cooking demonstrations throughout the contest in Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix. In these demos, he will educate consumers on the healthy preparation of meals using 7UP with 100% Natural Flavors and all natural ingredients.
