ClearApp(R) (/), a provider of comprehensive application service management (ASM) for J2EE-based composite applications, today announced that new research from leading industry independent analyst firm Forrester Research evaluated the company's QuickVision(R) solution and has categorized it as "On fire!" -- and stated that "it is definitely one to watch both as a competitor and as a potential partner." The report, entitled Tech Horizons: Evaluating ClearApp's Application Service Management Solution (Forrester Research, February 15, 2008) is available for authorized Forrester research () subscribers.
ClearApp QuickVision brings Business Service Management (BSM) modeling capabilities to the Application Performance Management (APM) market to overcome the obstacle of managing SOA performance. QuickVision is able to evaluate performance issues easier and faster due to its ability to provide business context from the service level down to the components enabling the service. The Forrester report states "the model-based approach is a 'must-have' for more complex composite applications, such as SOA apps and portals."
"The typical SOA application is composed of multiple services; monitoring them via a traditional APM solution may prove problematic," writes Jean-Pierre Garbani, vice president and principal analyst, Vendor Strategy at Forrester Research. He continues, "The model-based approach to application management should certainly improve the effectiveness and efficiency of complex composite application management, particularly those with middleware components like BPEL engines or portals on top of application servers."
Forrester writes that "ClearApp's service-oriented approach provides faster and more accurate identification of the root cause of performance problems in SOA-based applications. This technical advantage translates into an economic advantage for firms: faster resolution of application performance problems should use fewer resources."
After a short history of the APM market, the Forrester report evaluates ClearApp to rate the "heat factor" of the technology across a number of categories including: the potential market that the product addresses, the likelihood of the product's adoption, the obstacles to adoption, and finally the ability of the company to execute in the potential market. In the report's Evaluation Summary, ClearApp scored a "total heat factor" of 81 percent, placing it in Forrester's "On fire!" range.
