PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL

For its historic 46th edition unfolding August 17-19 at the Old Pool Farm near Schwenksville, PA, the PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL will unveil a truly special collaboration available only to All Festival Camping Ticket Holders. On Thursday, August 16, David Dye of World Cafe will host an intimate interview and concert with David Bromberg and Angel Band on the Camp Stage.

Longtime Philadelphia radio personality David Dye has hosted World Cafe since 1991. The nationally acclaimed show, now syndicated on more than 185 public radio stations, introduces a half-million listeners each week to newcomers like Damien Rice, My Morning Jacket and Coldplay. David Dye brings out the best in interviews with internationally known artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Joni Mitchell. World Cafe and Dye have received numerous awards including: two NFCB Gold Reel Awards, Album Network's "Best Triple A Air Talent," four Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly Awards," the Philadelphia Chapter of NARA "Hero Award" and numerous radio industry trade magazine citations.

Another Philadelphia native hero, David Bromberg, began studying guitar at age 13. After honing his skills in the Greenwich Village during the 1960s, his extraordinary guitar picking and exceptional stylistic range brought him to the attention of many other musicians: Bob Dylan, John Hurt, the Reverend Gary Davis and Tom Paxton are only a few of the notables who sought Bromberg out as a back-up artist for recording. In all, he has played as a sideman on over 100 albums. Concerts by David Bromberg and his band are extraordinary events. As the New York Times noted "He has such control of his audience that he can, at one moment, hold it in his hand with a tender, touching yet funny anecdotal song, and then set it romping and stomping with a raucous bit of raunch. He is electrifying."

Angel band is the result of some of the best area musicians getting together to jam on a regular basis at a small cafe in Wilmington, Delaware. These weekly jams came together originally because David Bromberg wanted to explore the possibility of bringing live, creative music back to a downtown that had once been thriving musically. Week after week, the players came from further and further away, until some of the area's finest musicians could be found sitting in on any given night. The simple fact that Angel Band grew out of this informal musical endeavor gave further endorsement to the idea that the best music comes naturally when great players gather. Angel Band features the ethereal vocals of Nancy Josephson, Jen Schonwald, and Kathleen Weber backed by superlative instrumentalists David Bromberg, Bobby Tangrea, Bob Taylor, and Jeff Wisor.

Among the other top attractions at the 46th annual PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL are Doc Watson, Mavis Staples, Jonathan Edwards, Bettye LaVette, Sam Bush, John Flynn, Vance Gilbert, The Mammals, Baka Beyond, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Liz Longley, Bob Carlin, The Quebe Sisters Band, Les Yeux Noirs, Back of the Moon, Fennigs All Star String Band, Toby Walker, The Pine Leaf Boys, Jack Williams, Freebo, Carsie Blanton, The Coyotes, and The Lovell Sisters. In all, more than 50 folk, blues, old-timey, bluegrass, world, and roots artists will be providing more than 55 hours of music from new and innovative to traditional, including more than 22 hours of dance music in the 3,500 square foot, wooden floor dance tent.

Returning for his 46th year as host/emcee is the Godfather of Philly Folk Music, WXPN radio personality and Festival co-founder Gene Shay, whose four decades of dedication, preservation and promotion of folk music have become celebrated, not only in Philadelphia, but around the country.

The campground at the PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL is a veritable Folk Wonderland! Considered the Ultimate Folk Festival Experience, this is THE place where jamming and camaraderie is shared during the large campfire sing after each evening concert. A special section of the campgrounds is designated for Family Camping as a "quieter" area of the tent camping, where campers there are asked, particularly late at night, to avoid after-hours jam sessions.

Tickets for the PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL are now on sale and can be purchased on-line at http://www.folkfest.org. Daily event tickets with Advance Ticket pricing start at $39.00.
