June 3, 2006 -- Cognitive Enhancement Systems' research evidence based, online system for cognitive skills enhancement of normal and special needs school children (3rd grade and above) and cognitive rehabilitation intervention for those with mild cognitive impairment or decline is now available for public subscription at . Challenging Our Minds (COM) was spawned out of computer presented clinical applications for rehabilitation therapy with those who had experienced brain injury, stroke, learning disability, attention deficit disorder etc. There have been numerous scientific publications showing the efficacy and efficiency of COM and the clinical programs upon which it was based (i.e. ) . Research on these, precursor, systems has been cited in numerous articles including Cicerone et. al. (2000). Evidence-Based Cognitive Rehabilitation: Recommendations for Clinical Practice. Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 81(12), 1596-1615. Many professionals who know and have used these systems think they are the very best and most comprehensive around and, at the same time, the most economical to implement, both for the professional and the end user. After many years of research on the effects of our interventions on both normal and special needs school children and two, very hard working, years of development we are very proud to offer this system for public use. Challenging Our Minds is a cognitive enhancement system designed to develop and enhance cognitive functions across the following domains:

• Attention Skills
• Executive Skills
• Memory Skills
• Visuospatial Skills
• Problem Solving Skills
• Communication Skills
• Psychosocial Skills

The COM therapy system and earlier versions of it have been utilized in over 5,000 facilities around the world. There are numerous publications in scientific journals that show the significant impact that this therapy approach has had on those treated with it. We first adapted the cognitive rehabilitation therapy system for use in schools in 1990 and have researched and modified the system continuously since that time. Two research publications have shown the significant advantages of participation in our intervention program for all children, not just those with special needs. In both research projects the children who participated in the COM program experienced statistically significant increases in measured intelligence while the control group showed no change.

Our primary focus has been to prepare this COM system for implementation within school systems, however, we are allowing individual, private registration and we are also allowing facilities other than schools, such as Learning Centers, to subscribe to the system. COM is available for monthly subscription for online use at the Challenging Our Minds website.
